The Mission of Amman Chamber of Commerce is to Lead Its Members And The Commercial Sector To A Better Business Environment And More Prosperous National Economy.
Jordanian – British Economic Relations:
The British – Jordanian economic relations date far back in history and are growing steadily in various areas and fields. The relations were established tens of years ago and were continually expanded in the different investment, trade and service fields including trade exchange of goods which is one of the most important and essential components of these relations. Trade exchange with the United Kingdom is one of the most important relations with the European countries with which Jordan has signed the Euro – Med Partnership Agreement intended to regulate, stimulate and liberate trade and services between Jordan and these countries. Yet, there are several agreements of common cooperation which were signed between the British Chambers of Commerce and the Jordanian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
A quick look at the growing volume of trade exchange between Jordan and UK will reveal that this volume has been increasing continually over the past few years. In 2007, the volume of Jordanian exports to UK amounted to US$ 18.4 million and rose in 2008 up to US$ 20.7 million, and reached US$ 10.3 million in the first seven months of the year 2009. On the other hand, the volume of Jordan's imports from UK was US$ 283.8 million in 2007, and rose in 2008 up to US$ 333.7 million, and reached US$ 194 million in the first seven months of 2009.
Despite the steady expansion and growth of the Jordanian – British trade exchange, we believe that there are broader prospects for increasing the volume of this exchange, and for boosting the economic relations between the two countries through activating the bilateral agreements, signing new agreements in different areas and fields, increasing the level of cooperation and coordination between the private sector institutions in the two countries in the form of exchanging information and legislations which govern their economic and investment environments, encouraging the communication gaps between the merchants and businessmen in the two countries in order to identify available opportunities and prospects for consolidating economic and investment cooperation. We also believe that it is necessary to concentrate on the importance of re-considering some articles and provisions of the Euro-Med Partnership Agreement in order to facilitate and stimulate trade exchange through simplifying the conditions to be met by the Jordanian products exported to UK, specially those related to the rules of origin.
