You may think a CSCS card is your passport to getting on to any kind of construction site, but for anyone working in the fencing industry a CSCS card is not enough.
Mining was once a major part of the UK industrial scene, from the coal mines across much of the country to the hard rock metal mines of Cornwall and many other minerals. Mining schools grew up to support these vital industries. These in turn developed from practical beginnings to become respected components of the higher education (HE) scene, with several universities in mining areas proud of their mining engineering degrees.
Training is not familiarisation. Some people think that showing an operator the basic functions of a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) or a mast climbing work platform (MCWP) amounts to training. It does not.

It is now three years since the Work at Height Regulations were first introduced. The Work at Height Regulations 2005, as amended by the Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007, apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury.
